As the commUNITY grieves the tragic murder of 18-year-old Yoseliani Marte, we also remember 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, whose murder nearly a year ago underscores the urgent need to continue to address Teen Dating Violence Awareness. These devastating losses remind us that teen dating violence is not rare, nor is it "just teenage drama" or this week's headline news. It is a serious public health issue that can escalate with devastating consequences when victims feel they have nowhere to turn.⁠

An estimated 1 in 3 teens in the U.S. experience some form of physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from someone they are dating before adulthood, yet many never tell a trusted adult. At LLN, we urge everyone to create safe spaces for honest conversations, recognize warning signs early, connect young people with support and hold abusers TRULY accountable. Every teen deserves a relationship built on respect, trust, and safety — NOT FEAR, POWER and CONTROL.⁠

This gives LLN an opportunity to go directly into the community once a quarter and speak directly to sur-THRIVERS who may have been displaced due to DV, speak with anyone who may currently be experiencing DV, and also speak to men about how they can be UP-standers! ⁠
